Thought I would just share this - I guess my server's motherboard is dying. I can't overclock anymore.

Gigabyte GA-965P-S3, Core2Duo E6300 and 2x2gb DDR400 - I used to run this system all day long at 2.8ghz all day long with a 7x400 FSB overclock and ram at a 2x multi to run 800mhz. I overclocked it from day one. I think it ran at stock for about 20 minutes as I checked to see if the hardware was working.

I moved it into my server 4-5 years ago and clocked it back to stock for heat reasons. I'm finding it inadequate to transcode two streams in Plex so I wanted to OC it till I can afford the outrageous price of a used Sandy or Ivy Bridge quad.

Now, I can't even make it 1mhz over stock of 266. It simply reboots during post. I can run the ram by itself all the way up to 1066mhz with no issue, but 267 or higher FSB is an immediate reboot during post.

At least I can still force an 8x multi and run it at 2.13ghz - that's just a bit more than a 250mhz jump over stock.

Edit: I just realized, I bought this CPU/Mobo/Ram combo in 2007. It's nine years old! No wonder it's dying.

Ever since 2010 it seems like years have been going by in weeks. :) Welcome to middle age.

Do you have any USB storage devices connected at POST? That could cause those symptoms.

I have 4 external USB3 drivers - but they are connected to a USB3 PCIe card. In any case though, it's irrelevant, I have a Xeon E3-2670 and Sabertooth x79 on the way from the Xeon thread.
