I have all of the latest anti virus and spyware definitions. A scan turns up nothing. I can't type in any addresses to my address bar and get to any new sites. I can however, use my favorites to get around to new sites and I can get to different sites by following links on the pages that are already loaded.

I have deleted my history, cache and cookies. I have the latest OS updates too.

I'm stumped. Anyone have any ideas?

edit: Im runnin winXP pro, and I just removed an Adware - purity scan yesterday.

I just PMed myself www.gmail.com and www.nwa.com so that I could check in for my flights. I cant get the pages to work if I put them in the address bar, but when I PM myself the addresses and then click on a link it works.

What's happening when you type in the address? Are you getting an error message, or is it just not loading/refreshing at all?

First, do a reboot if you haven't done so yet.

Second, go into Internet Options, and click on Security. Set it to Default Level. Then click on the Advance tab, and click on Restore Default on the lower right hand corner.

If those don't work, go to www.microsoft.com, and click on Downloads on the left hand side. Then click on Internet Explorer 6... that'll reinstall IE.

If those don't work, go to www.mozilla.org and get firefox.

If that doesn't work, get your XP CD, and put it in your CD drive. Reboot computer, and hit any key when it asks you to. Follow the instructions, and reinstall Windows (you could possibly do an overlay install).

That would be a pain. I would reinstall IE if you haven't done it yet. Only takes a few mins.

Try

regsvr32 "%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\shdocvw.dll"

In the start menu run box. Then try IE.
