Can't open a .art file

I can't open a .art file for some reason...i get a red x. I have every microsoft update installed.

Here are my specs: Windows 2000 SP3, IE6

It could be something wonky like an Adobe Illustrator file created on a Mac. I've seen a lot of Mac design shops use .art on the end of Illustrator files to differentiate them from .eps.
