Hi all,

I have had problems changing the speed of my CPU.

It's a Tbird 1GHz and I can't change it's operating speed at all. I can't underclock it, neither overclock it.

As soon as I change the clocking and save to CMOS, the computer won't boot at all. I reboot and the computer don't even dare to start...

I then have to clear the CMOS to reboot and replace the speed. If I clear the CMOS, the speed is at 500. If I don't replace the speed to 1GHz, the BIOS claim that there is a "Checksum error" and let me boot... but if I change manually the speed to anything else than 1000 (100 x 10), the computer won't boot.

Clear enough? :)

I'll wait for constructive tips and hint.

Thx all!

The reason the BIOS says 500 after you clear it is b/c that's what it defualts too (well, on my kt7a-raid anyway)...and since the cpu isnt a 500mhz cpu, thats where the error comes from...

How are you trying to overclock? via FSB or multiplier..?

If by multiplier, did you unlock the L1 bridges?

Also...if trying to go up the FSB, how high were you trying to take it?

You may also need to up the voltage too..

It sounds like your multiplier is locked....pencil in those L1's!!!

(or i'll trade you my 800mhz tbird @ 1ghz for it..heh..)

Ok. Let's clear things out here. I'm a newbie to all that technical stuff. I've worked on the computer world for a long time now but only since a week or two I'm interested to invest more time in the hardware field. So I would really like a sort of guide or howto for all those techy words. Ok, I know what is the FSB and what is the multiplier. But the L1... Man, what is this?! :D

Anybody has a link to a sort of "technical computers words for extra-ass-dummies" or something? ;)

Thx for the link!

I had some problem with my first experiences...

I tried to get the FSB at 110, to make the CPU run at 1100. I forgot to adjust my voltage, which I downed a bit to maintain 1.74v in reality. Bad move. The CPU ran out of juice and I scrapped half the data on my HD! :D

Next, I tried to run 3DMark2001 but the CPU hang totally... Maybe if I give him more juice. So I tried to give him 1.775 (which should give 1.825 in reality). The CPU rebooted like it did when there was not enough juice! What the?!

Any advice would be great of you guys! :)

Oh. Forgot to say that after the first reboot and data scrapped, I had ajust the voltage to the default and the CPU worked perfectly. 1.84 in reality for 1100 is good enough until it do a great job. That's why I tried to up the voltage a bit. But it crashed again...

ok, here's a better link, it shows you how to unlock the multiplier. You should increase voltage as you increase your FSB. Try unlocking multiplier then lower the multiplier and then up the FSB. 1ghz chip on that board shoud do 9*133.

I tried to link all the L1s together according to the tutorial but it failed. I really don't know why! I use the EXACT same metal ink as them and had link all the L1s as shown but still it doesn't want to cooperate.

Damn.
