Can't move files in XP

I've got four .avi files that I'm trying to move in Windows XP from one folder to another on the same drive.
Basic stuff.

When I try to move them by dragging them, I get a message stating that I can't move the file and that access is denied.
It tells me to make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use.

I've closed all file-sharing programs (Morpheus, etc) and I've rebooted to ensure that no programs are using the .avi files.
I've got more than enough space to move the files.
The drive isn't write-protected.

Any ideas? This seems like such a dumb problem I'm having, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

do you have admnistrator rights or limited access

are you granted only read only access or full access

the only time i see this happen usually is on limited access accounts

are they in a file that is file protected?don't know if the latter is possible but win xp is pretty fussy about sharing files if it is not enabled properly

hope this helps

I've got administrative rights ... and it's only these four files ... which is confusing.
I may try to boot with a bootdisk, but it's an NTFS partition, so I'll need to get an NTFS-capable boot disk or use the XP/NT boot disks.

This is the strangest simple-bug I've ever come across.

I seem to have this problem all the time. I had mucho conflicts with Morpheus, what I ended up having to do a few times is open Morpheus and right click/cancel the file, it was somehow still in a que. I'm not sure if it's a file sharing program that was doing it, but some of my files and a few of my directories seemed to magically be read only.

XP has some serious problems, minor but annoying none the less :)
