Can't make up my mind.......

I built my computer 3 years ago. I have another year (maybe 2) of college left and I don't want to have to go spend a bunch of money on a new one. Although, even if I had the money, now really isn't the time to build one. Anyways, I want to upgrade my video card. I have been debating this for the past 5 months. At first I was thinking of going for a FX5600. I figured that would be about the best card I could get that my system wouldn't "hold back". But then I didn't really want to spend 130 bucks. I thought of going for an older generation card, but the GeForce4's are still around 100 bucks. Now I'm looking at cards in the 50 dollar range. I found FX5200 cards and Radeon 9200's. I have read a lot of bad reviews and dissappoint opnions about the FX5200, so I am kind of hesitant in buying one. I haven't read too much about the 9200 that makes it any better than the FX5200.

Basically, for 50 dollars, would it be worth it to get either the FX5200 or the Radeon 9200?

Currently I have a GeForce2 GTS. And yes I am a gamer. (Vice City, UT2003, Quake III, JK Outcast, NFS series, etc...)

Thanks

You should probably give your system specs so people will be able to give better overall advice.

Sorry bout that, kinda doing too many things at once.....

Athlon 1.33GHz,512 PC2100 RAM and has stated before GeForce2 GTS

Shouldn't need anything more than that, but if you want it, then I'll provide it.

OH...and nothing is OC'ed.

Well, for $50 you're not going to get much. The 5200 is a waste of money. 9200 is OK, nothing great.

Can you go $100? Then you're into the 9500/9600 range, and those would probably be your best bet at this point.

You should probably upgrade first, but you already know that.

TI4200s are around $60 on ebay. They kick the crap out of the fx5200 and fx5600, and are faster than the 9500 IMO in non dx9 apps

Aye, if you arent gonnna get a decent 9600 then please do yourself a favor and get a Ti4200. They are AWESOME for the money.

Aim for a Radeon 9100 with 250/250MHz core/memory clocks or a 9000 Pro, preferably with 128MB RAM. You'll definitely be able to find a GF3Ti500 in that price range, about as fast as the Radeons, although it may have worse 2D.

A 9200 is a renamed 9000, and will be much slower than a 9100 or a 9000 Pro.

But spend a little time looking for a 64MB GF4Ti 4200. It'll be worth it.

I really don't want to have to get a card for 100. I honestly don't think putting a card that much into my old machine would be worth it.
I did consider buying a Radeon 9700 PRO and then just put this card in the new machine I want to build next year or so and put the old card back in this machine. But again, comes down to money.

I'll look for a GeForce4 4200. If I can find it like you say, around 80, then I might just pick one up. I don't have anything that uses DX9 anyways.
Or does Vice City use it. ( I know it was installed along with it)

Anyways, thanks
