Can't Make My Mind Up On New Build

I'm looking to build my first computer near Christmas and just really need help deciding on what to get. I need a CPU, Video Card, RAM and HDD. I am on a $815 including shipping.
I need to try to keep it around that. Here's what I got so Far:

CPU- AMD Opteron 170 Dual-Core $400

Video Card- eVGA GeForce 6800GS $200

RAM- G. SKILL Extreme Series 1GB Dual Channel Kit $122

HDD- Hitachi T7K250 250GB HDD $102



Total Price Comes To About $824 + Shipping. I know it's streching my budget but Is this worth it? I know everyone's gonna say go for a 7800GT but I'd rather have a faster CPU because I'm not the biggest gamer and I only play about 2 or 3 Games. (Swat 4, CS:CZ, and Rise of Nations)

Down to Point:
-Need CPU
-Need GPU
-Need RAM
-Need HDD
-Is my parts worth it?

the RAM is top of the line.

the HDD I've heard is very good too ut if someone can prove me wrong then I'd be glad to get a Seagate.

The 6800GS will net you around 60FPS @ 1280x960 in most games with a little bit of the effects turned on. It is a good deal. For a few dollars more (25-65) you can get a 6800GT.

G.SKILL is still considered cheap value ram and has not been around long enough to have built a reputation like Crucial (Awesome and Stable), Corsair (Leaders), Samsung (Jack of All Trades), and OCZ (The Innovators). I just do not trust G.SKILL yet. Many ram manufacturers use second rate *blank label* ram chips that often have failed the tests requred by the original DRAM maufactuter for use in their own product. These Chips are often sold as blanks to any one who wants them at cut rate prices, blanks are not the highest quality stuff.


Save your self some money and get a single core 3000+, it has most of the same performance of the Dual but costs 2/3rds less. Dual core can come later when you need it, untill then I doubt that you will miss it.

No problemo. I had a Haro bike once, it was stolen. Then I got a sweet Hutch, that was stolen too. And my GT.

Anyway, I wouldn't spend more than $100 for 1 GB of RAM. Otherwise, nice choices.

My friend had a Harobike too. It was stolen. Now e has a sweet GT.

I will look for different RAM.
I'd rather save $65 and get a 6800GS.
I wan't dual core, I do alot of multitasking.

You cannot go wrong with this RAM or this set.

good if ya dont play a lot of games? BS. you can play any game on it fine. just dont expect the highest settings with the highest res. it performs almost the same as the 6800GT, give a few frames.

I mean as in if you are a hardcore gamer then you would want a 7800 or greater
