Can't make a decision on SSD.

Trying to decide on what the best course of action is. I need somewhere around 80gb for my OS and Games partitions, which I want to put on SSD for best performance. So that kind of rules out one Intel G2 80gb.

So I figure my options are 2 80GB Intel G2's, NOT running in a raid setup, so 1 for my OS and 1 for games. This might be best for performance? Or pick up a 120GB OCZ SSD which I could put both on, but it seems like everyone is leaning toward the Intel's right now.

3rd option is to splurge for the 160gb Intel, but it seems overpriced.. although I see it for ~$530 right now for the OEM drive. Although I guess 2 80GB drives will cost me damn near that amount as well.. so maybe my options really are one OCZ 120GB or the 160GB Intel.

Any thoughts?

I am currently debating on whether or not I should take a chance on one of those cheap Kingston drives. I have a 30GB Vertex that I really want to dump into my laptop...but got so used to the speed, that I am afraid that the Kingston would be noticeably slower.

Decisions, decisions. :)

I don't think it will be much slower

If it helps you, the new TRIM firmware for the G2s gives a significant bump in speed to the 160 gig drive but not the 80s.

From a quick look, 2x80gig X-25's would be about $600-ish? , and a Vertex would be about $500?

I'd go with 2 80Gig Intels if you need all that space, otherwise, I'd get the Vertex if you can fit everything into 120gig. You save ~$100, and I doubt in a blind test that you could tell the difference between the two drives in you real-world usage. I have the G1 intel and the vertex, and I tried both as boot drives, and noticed no real difference between the two, other then both were way faster then my old HDD.

If you only need 120GB, get the Indilinx. If you need (or will need) 160 GB, get the X25-M. And yes, I'd get one 160GB over two 80GB.

SSD prices, especially at higher capacities, are completely off the wall since the Intel G2 drives were released. You really have to shop around to find the best price and not be picky with who you buy from (of course, I only buy from places with good ResellerRatings and that several other people from the forum can vouch for). Here's a quick list; they're not the best prices around, but they're a good ballpark.

80GB X-25M G2 is $290 at Newegg
120GB Agility is $370 at ZipZoomFly
120GB Vertex is $400 at ZipZoomFly
160GB X-25M G2 is $490 at eCOST / $550 at ZipZoomFly

I already have a 160GB X-25m G2 (got lucky and took "the plunge" early when they were "only" ~$460), and I'm looking to pick up a second drive for my laptop. I really don't want to shell out $500 for another one of these, and I'm a bit disappointed that Intel didn't (or can't) upgrade the sequential write speed with the latest firmware on the 80GB version. I'm thinking the 120GB Agility is going to be my next drive, unless I decide to suck it up, grab an 80GB X-25M G2, and put the 160GB in my laptop instead.

In the weeks since Windows 7, I've seen both the supply of good SSDs dive to the point of HD5000 type availability (= very bad, at least here in Canada) and prices of all SSDs have sky-rocketed. 2 months month ago for 120GB drives, the Agility was $299 and Vertex was $329.

I ordered an Agility for $354 last week but between processing the order and shipping, it was suddenly on back-order. Now only one place has the Agility and it's $399 and the Vertex is $425.

I dont know, but all SSD's are overpriced since its obviously a new technology. I dont think you can get picky on price for SSDs. This is the reason I went with a velociraptor instead. Ill wait for prices for drop over the next year or two.
