Can't loosen timings on memory?

First things first, the setup:
A64 3200+ NewCastle
Gigabyte K8N Pro (nF3 150)
512mb PC3200 PDP Patriot w/ XBL (Samsung TCCD ICs)
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro

The memory's timings at auto are 2-2-2-8. I've set it to 2-2-2-5 via the BIOS, so it works fine at it's advertised timings. But I max the OC at something like 217, I've lowered the multi to 10 (from 11), so the CPU shouldn't be the hinderance.

Anyway, to the point, I can not loosen the CAS Latency from 2. It will not work at 2.5 or 3. Tried both through the BIOS and through A64 Tweaker. Any ideas? If not, I guess it's time to RMA and get a new stick.

More voltage allowed me to attain a slightly higher (247) OC, but that wasn't stable at all. And just in case anyone is wondering, I've maxed out at 242.17 HTT @ 2-4-4-8 :( It ran StressPrime 2004 for an hour, then suddenly restarted :( Rats.

what do you mean can't loosen the CAS Latency from 2? cntl + F1?

besides 2-2-2-7 will be faster using a divider.... see my mem thread..

Anyway here's my sugesstion on overclcok

multi 10
HTT 250+
Memsetting 166 2-2-2-7

Will give you 2500+mhz with best mem performance.

I mean, I can not set the CAS Latency at anything other than 2. I set it to 2.5, it restarts, and boots at SPD (which is 2). I set it to 3, it restarts, and boots at SPD. And yes, I know the CTRL+F1 unlocks the "hidden" Gigabyte menu, where else do you think I was changing the CAS Latency values through the BIOS?

Hmm, but it will work at CAS 1.5.

I'm hitting the wall @ 240 at 2-2-2-7. VDIMM is +.3V, so that's 3.1V I think..

Maybe it's the mobo. I have a Leadtek K8N-Pro sitting in it's box, maybe I should try it.

I definity don't think anything is wrong with your memory. Those timings at that speed is way awesome for tccd. Try a new bios or new board. Or better yet try using 9 multiplier@290 w/ 166 memsetting 2-2-2-7

I'm an A64 virgin (longtime P4 so my thinking could be messed up), but anyway I was wondering:

Since the A64 has the on-die memory controller, how much affect does the processor have on possible incompatability such as this or some of the other memory related problems I've seen posted? From days past, the obvious suspect would always be the mobo, but shouldn't the cpu be scrutinized as well when dealing with A64?

I'm open for a public flogging if I'm all wet, but please provide backup info if you do so I can learn something;)

Lower your multi to 7 or 6 then raise your fsb/ram speed and run memtest to see where your ram's max stable limit is, then start ocing your cpu.
