Cant load up XP

When i boot up an XP computer it loads the wallpaper and then a window comes up sayen there was an error in userinit.exe. Weather I send in the report in or not I get the same message for Dr.watson debuger next. Then nothing else happens the drwatson bug alert keeps poping up. I googled userinit and found some similar problems. They said to replace the file(userinit.exe)with a fresh copy from another machine. So i did. Still having the same prob. After lunch I might replace the drwatson exe but not sure . Any other ideas??? TIA

you can type this in the Run Dialog box, first put your xp cd in and then exit the program of course, and then type this in the Run Dialog box and it should replace any missing files:

sfc (space bar here) /scannow

then click on OK
