Can't load OS

My wifes machine was badly infected with viruses.

I decided to start from scratch with a clean install.

- formated c: drive
- booted from floppy
- put Win Me in Cd drive

The OS starts to load but hangs up on the first screen. It doesn't look like a full crash as the mouse cursor is still moving. right before it hangs it appears to be trying to read something from the floppy.

I have tried:
- differenent start up disk - same thing
- different OS disk (WIn 98) - same thing

I don't know what to do next. Any ideas?

btw, this is an older K62 system

thanks,

Larry

Did you also fdisk, removed partition, and created new partition before formatting just in case the virus screwed up the disk partitions?

What are you booting the system up with?hardware wise?

try the install with just the Video card.
no SoundCard,NIC,Modem,etc.

also may want to check that your Virus setting in the Bios is "Disabled".

i've had lots of problems with installs due to the Virus setting being Enabled.

Good Luck.

First off, get it through your skull that HTML is not permitted in this forum...maybe next time you should read before you post. Second, if you don't have anything constructive to add to this post, don't post. There is already too much neffing around here, and we don't need another junior member like you to add to it.

With that said, I'd start by clearing my CMOS and then fdisk to delete all the partitions. Let the OS partition the drive during the install.

i don't think tech support is what is needed...
it sounds more like a 'special' support.
