Can't load max payne, please help

i bought max payne yesterday. i just did a FRESH INSTALL of win2k. Max Payne "generates errors and must be closed" after the intro movie & on the loading screen. It goes to 40% or so on the loading bar progress and then win2k gives me that error. Any ideas on how i can make it work will be helpful. i tried it on the lowest settings, with nothing overclocked, nothing works.

Have you applied the 1.01 patch? It fixes problems associated with Win2K:

i figured something out. if i disable sound it works. i don't want to play the game with no sound. i will keep trying.

i fixed it by lowering the sound hardware acceleration to emulation. i'm gonna up it one notch at a time. bummer cuz i have nice headphones.
