Cant load an OS on this laptop (need help)

Have a compaq presario 700 and need to load xp pro on it but it shuts down everytime i try to load from the disc. It works fine otherwise. IS there some protection on the laptop that i need to work around? any links would help a lot.

Hmm. Have you upgraded the RAM? XP on 128 MB is rather painful.

But, just as a guess about your problem: I'd hazard that it's a memory problem. Try running a c12230 MemTest86 loop.
