Can't live with noise from Volcano 9 CPU fan

Thermaltake in general, and especially the Volcano series, are not known for being quiet. I had a Volcano 11 that ran between 5000-6000 rpms at 12V, and even at 7V and 3200rpms, it was too loud. My suggestion would be to replace the fan, as the heatsink itself is fine. Mine currently sports an L1A, and is plenty happy, and more importantly, quiet.

Hi Thanks for your reply. I actually didn't finish writing the above topic that you responded too--for some reason I was cut off--the old laptop probably burped. Anyway I guess I got enough written for your kind response. I'm wondering what brand of fan the L1A that you mention is? Is it a fan and heatsink or just a fan? Thanks, Jason:music:

Im sorry to say, but you probably are better off getting a brand new HS and fan. Something like a panaflo M1BX 92mm and SI-97 from Thermalright.

I never had any luck with Thermaltake products, and the Volcano9 is not their best HS.

I agree with Tiamat. I have one of those (fan replaced of course 🙂) and it has trouble keeping a 1.5v TBred cool.

Thanks for your suggestion. This is my first computer building project. I'm following directions from the website: .mysuperpc.com. In general the author seems very knowledgable and experieced so I'm mystified why he would recommend the Vocano 9 fan/HS with it's noise problem. Anyway, my next question is if you think I ought to try to get a fan/HS combo in one box or piece them together like you've infered doing. I'm using an Athlon XP 2600+ , ABIT NFS-7, 512 MB Crucial, 160gb Seagate, Radeon 9600SE. Do you think the fan and HS that you recommend would cool my system well?
