Can't joke with religious people?

Religious types always claim they are reasonable people except things related to their religion which makes what they say a contradiction.

in my experience... thats the mentality of a "born again". ie. people who werent brought up with religion but were told all the problems in their life were because of the lack of "it".

I was telling a story once to born again christian coworker and said "god dammit" at one point. He instantly cut me off and yelled, do not say the lords name in vain. I said i don't believe in a god. We don't speak much anymore..

Eh, whenever people say that to me I always tell them that God's name isn't "God". That would be like me calling them "Chick" or "Dude". Now, if I had said "Allah", "Yahweh", "Jehovah" or something then I could understand.

Also, people say that when you say "Jesus Christ" but then I'm always like "Jesus was allegedly the son of God, not God itself."

I dunno what it is with these people responding with bible verses, as if they mean anything to those of us who don't subscribe to their religion. Might as well quote from Harry Potter.

God is as much his name as "Allah", "Yahweh" or, "Jehovah (or, even Dude)." If you believe in Christianity, Jesus is one part of the trinity and therefore is God. "Thou art God" but, don't let it go to your head.

Well, I saw him tonight with other friends and he said he sent all the texts because I mentioned I was godless. Can't blame him since I know what he is like already. I guess my point is that I don't like fundies talking down to me like I am broken and they have the fix. This is very rude and I could use some help fully describing why its wrong for them to do that. So, help me articulate please. Why is it wrong for fundies or for whoever to try and sell you the god fix for your broken, sad life? (fire away)

It looks like Biden's hand is down the president's trousers and Obama is holding it there with his right hand.

But seriously, I have a hard time being friends with people that have vastly different points of view when it comes to religion. I don't think anyone should be forcing their faith on someone, but for the super religious that (at least seems to be) tantamount to letting drunk people drive. It's just so hard to have any sort of productive, civil discourse. What's the point?

Please do not turn this thread into a religious forum battlefield

It is not "wrong" per se, just really f-ing annoying.

I refuse to surround myself with annoying people. So, if he refuses to stop trying to "save" you, then you have to drop him as a friend.

That being said, I will sometimes discuss with fundies how everyones relationship with G-d is a personal one and that others should not try to impose their views on how to have such a relationship on others. That would be a little like trying to tell me how to have a relationship with my wife, my kids or my parents - In other words, unless I ask you for relationship advice, it is none of your damn business.

You're a lawyer and you hang out at ATOT. I don't think that means what you think it means. 😀

Aren't jokes normally supposed to be funny? Maybe if he could tell it was a joke, he would have responded differently.

You can't joke with non religious people either. Imagine some folks getting upset because I wanted to post a sign over the soup: "Soup Fishers Go To Hell."

You can joke with religious people about anything but their religion. This should be obvious to you. He probably was feeling guilty for associating with you for this long without attempting to convert you as well. If you go around pointing out to religious people that you are not religious, you are inviting conversion attempts.

LOL.

You're the nutjob that blew a gasket because someone said 'bible shit'

If your beliefs are a bunch of idiotic, illigical nonsense, expect people to call you on it.

If you don't like it then stop thinking a fictional book full of fairy tales is true.

Bullshit or not, I would wager that the way you talk on here *Most people probably don't enjoy your company.

Should I now start a thread titled "All atheists are closedminded a-holes?"

Don't joke about people's religions...that's offensive...
Isn't that a bit like making racist jokes?
It depends on the type of the person as well though, I guess...
