Not sure what you mean, but it sounds like it's not booting from the CD when you start up your system?

If so, you need to go into BIOS when the computer is just starting up. Find the section to change the order in which the devices are booted from. Have the CD drive (that the WinXP disk is in) boot up before the HDD.

Switch the setting back when the install is finished... if you want to.

Good luck!

thanks!

however i just tried that now, it does not seem to be working for bios i have

CD
HDD
FLoppy

it boots, jumps to the screen with the chart, and then it says Press a Key to Boot From CD.
I pressed a key but nothing happens, it just hangs there. thats my problem it doesn't get past that spot!

any ideas?

GunDog is right on.
Sounds like either a prob with the cd itself, may need cleaning, what i do is use a some warm water and liquid soap, i clean across the grain with soap and water, then clean soap off hands and cd, then dab most water off with paper towels, then i use kleenex to finish the job.

Otherwise it could be the cd and the cdrom may not get along too well. Are you sure the cdrom is in good working order, can you try another one?

When you get that far, its best to let win xp format the h drive all over, fat32 or NTFS, win xp doesnt care which you use, never mind what others say!!
