Can't install WoW

This is really weird. I've been trying to install World of Warcraft using the original, legal CDs but I keep getting CRC errors at random intervals. So I decided to install it on a different machine and just do a rapid install package of it, so that's what I did. It installed no problem on the other machine. To my suprise the rip was only about 300MB but it seems to be complete.

So I run it in VMware first, on my machine, and it STILL won't install, it just gets stuck at random files, basically the same way it did with the normal installer. Then the executable installer just stops responding. What's going on?! It can't be memory as I've tested it, and can't be the HDD since I'd be having more problems installing other stuff, and it's brand new.

Has anyone ever seen this before? The CRC thing with the installer seems to be a common problem, but I can't see why the rip is not working.

Thats not really helpful. My friend's 2 person server could use more members. :p

Anyway I left the rip overnight, and still, it just got stuck to some file then it never bothered finishing. I could try to make a rip of only the registry stuff, then manually copy the files maybe... but there has to be an easier way.

Wow (no pun intended) that actually worked. Since it installed fine on my parant's machine, I grabbed the folder in "program files" and made a rip of the registry changes, then copied the files to my machine and installed the rip. Works.

My only problem now is burning it to DVD. I have extremly bad luck with disc burners, 70% of the time burns fail, and that's pure bad luck, since it does not matter what burner I use, it's always been that way for me.

So that said I'm on my second DVD and it's 15% done so it's huge suspense. For some reason it always burns at like 2.4X when my burner supports 16X and the discs I'm using support 4X, so not sure what's with the 2.4. That's totally not standard so maybe it's part of my problem of it always failing. Could be the Discs too, I just took whatever sears had when I was there, which was not much. Not dual layer or anything fancy.

Well something obviously does not want me to play Wow. I'm on my 3rd coaster now. F@#$CK and DVD's are so expensive too... I think I'll just store it on my server and screw burning it. I dont know why I'm having so many issues with these files.

That was my initial thought too. It seems too obvious to be true

Yeah I was later on told it can work that way. Suprising actually since most games dump tons of crap in the registry. So thats what I'll do I just keep it on my D drive. the burner I have is known to crap out on data discs after doing research but I was told to upgrade the firmware so I'll have to give that a try.

I've had problems installing WoW from the cds too. I used this method taken from the WoW support page:

Another good test and potential workaround is to copy the entire contents of the installation CDs (or the one DVD) to your hard drive:

1. First, make a new folder on your desktop and name it something such as WoW Installer.
2. Open up the disk itself:
* Windows users should go into My Computer, right-click the CD, and choose Open.
* Mac users can simply double-click the CD on their desktop.
3. Go to the Edit menu and choose Select all, so all the files are highlighted.
4. Go to the Edit menu and choose Copy.
5. Open the new folder you created on your desktop
6. Go to the Edit menu and choose Paste.
7. The files should copy from the CD to that folder.
8. Once this is complete, please put in the next install disk.
9. Open up the disk (using the process in step 2 above).
10. Select the file called Installer Tome with the number at the end.
11. Go to the Edit menu and choose Copy.
12. Open the new folder you created on your desktop
13. Go to the Edit menu and choose Paste.
14. The "Tome" file will copy over.

Repeat steps 8-14 to get the "Installer Tome" files off of the remaining installation disks. If you receive any error while copying any of these files, that typically indicates a problem with the disk.

However, if you were able to successfully copy all of the files to the new folder on your hard drive, please try running the installation program straight from the folder by double clicking on the installer icon. This has been a dependable workaround for a significant percentage of users, and may get the game installed for you.

Yep I had found that solution and it still did not work. really weird. Only way was to manually copy the files from my other PC (on which it installed successfully).
