Can't install windows XP...

A few days ago now, I picked up a WD 80 gb HD w/8mb cache. Yesterday I tried to put windows xp on it. So I'm trying to install windows on the thing and first it loads all these basic drivers. Next, It says "windows is now installing' or something to that effect. Well about 5 secs after that my screen just goes black.

I've already tried many things to get this thing to work. I tried to reinstall windows on my other 2 drives and I get the same error. This leads me to believe it's not my new drive. I also tried putting the windows cd in both of my cd roms. Then I tried using my not so legal win xp pro disk. I was previously using my legit cd... I even put all my bios back to default (I was overclocking just a bit).

Also, I have installed XP on this system, using the same cd more then once. I'm stumped

Any Ideas?
Anyone? Bueller?

If that is the only drive on the cable, make sure it is jumpered as 'single' instead of 'master'. Don't know if that is your problem but WD drives do strange things like that when they are jumped master and are alone on the cable.

Yes, I've made sure the jumpers are always correct. I've also tried a few different configs, the WD by its self or as master/slave with my 40gig maxtor. I don't think my hard drives are causing this problem.

I've been wrong before though. 🙂

I ran into problems similar to this also. It helped when I went into the BIOS and used the setting "Load fail safe defaults"
or something to that effect. Make sure all BIOS and video shadowing and /or cache settings are turned off. Once you install XP you can tweak the BIOS however you like.

First off, I've been far to busy to work on my comp with school and work. 🙁

Anyways I've finally tried some more things. Loading fail safe defaults on the mobo did nothing. And I did make sure that video shadowing was off. I have also tried unplugging all the extra componets of my pc i.e. sound card and nic card. No luck.

The odd thing is that I have formated and reinstalled windows multiple times with this computer...

My sys:
Epox K8ha+
512 mb Crucial ddr
sb audigy
Radeon 8500
Windows XP
nic card
asus 50x
plextor 48 24 48
