Can't install Windows Xp

I posted this on Technical Support but got no response so i'm trying my luck here.

I created a virtual machine on my W2K system. I installed WinXp . Files get copied but stuck at SETUP, where you are given the following choices:
Press ENTER to continue installation
Press R to do recovery
Press ESC(I think) to abort.

Pressing any of the above yielded no action. Anyone know why this is so? Can anyone help?

Are you using VMWare or what???
Did you have the virtual machine focused / connected to the keyboard / mouse.

Try it again and then when you get to this step, take the mouse and click on the Virtual screen first to place the focus there then select whatever option you want with the keyboard.

Virtual machine = VMWare Workstation or Server or Microsoft Virtual PC ?

If its VMWare, your clicking into the virtual window and then pressing the keyboard button?

Thanks to you both. I did not see that in VMWare's HELP. My XP virtual machine is now running but slowly. Will add more memory. Again, thanks to you both.
