Can't Install Windows 98 or 2000 on AsusP3V4X ????

Upto 1st reboot and evry time after rebooting it say "Windows Protection error IOS you must restart your computer"????

I have tried diff memory AGP cards (geforce 2 and atixpert) and remove all other cards. Only thing i havent got a spare of is the H/D which is an IBM deskstar ATA66 20gb.

On about my tenth effort at a clean install and going mad - please help

Sorry should a mentioned its a p3-667 (133x5) and 2 seperate sticks of 128mb PC100 SDRAM

Try just one stick of the memory at a time.. and make sure you arent overclocked installing windows.

I had the same problem, master boot root virus. make a windows 98 startup disk and write protect it. boot off it and type fdisk /mbr
then go into fdisk and wipe the old partition and make a new one, restart and format. good luck

Hi Guys thanks for replies - after perserverence I got there!!!!

I had narrowed it down to a "must be a bios config problem" and I was right. The BIOS Memory speed setting was on auto and wrongly selecting my pc100 dimms to be 2ns ram (i presume) as opposed to the (obviously now correct cos it works) 3ns RAM. I changed this under Advanced in the BIOS menu but cant remember what the sub-menu is called.

And boy was it worth it!!!!

Just done a 3dmark2000 bench on it and my score has lept from a pittiful 3009 on my 820 chipset supermicro to a very nice thankyou 4976!!!!!!! @1024x768x16 default benchmark

Sys is p3-667, 256mb pc100sdram, the asus p3v4x of course , and a geforce 2 GTS with sblive1024 and the best bit yet is...... I havent even begun to tweak and o/c yet

UPDATE : Now after tweaking a few windows and bios settings I now score 5656 on 3dmark and I still havent o/c'ed
