Cant install windows 2000?!?

Ok i have this computer, its a piece of crap AMD K62 350, i think... Everytime try to install 2000, it gives me a bunch of files it cant copy to the hard drive. What is going on, i reloaded the software on this computer before... I also tried a 98 disk, same problem...

Please help.

are you using any controller card? try to use the ide one that attach to the mobo instead of using the controller card if you used one.

When this happened to me it was a failing hard drive. Windows went to hell-in-a-handbasket over two days, couldn't re-load and got those same file errors.
 
This has happened to me a few times and it was always faulty RAM.. try a RAM tester programm or a different memory module.
 
1. Clean install, reformatted and repartitioned.
2. No overclock.
3. I was thinking it might be the hardrive, if nothing else works i will replace it.
4. There is a new piece of crucial ram in there, but i will try a different one.

Any onther ideas?
 
I had the same problem like what you have and I kept trying to reinstall it and it finally went it. If I am not mistaken, last time I also cleaned the CD because it couldn't copy the file. Did you try that? There's nothing wrong to do that.

I would try swapping out the ram first, this has happened to me too. The only difference in my case was that 98 would go in just fine, only it would get errors a fews days later, small ones, but they were there. I thought it was the hard drive too, but I swapped out the ram and lo and behold, it worked! The reason is that before anything makes it to your hard drive during setup, it hangs out in ram first.
 
Do you have a soundcard in there, and is it a soundblaster of any model? If so try removing it and re-installing. Another thread on here a few days ago had a soundblaster 64, which when pulled out fixed the problem. I had probelms with both a soundblaster live, and live 5.1. Win2k install on certain motherboards, just don't like those cards.
 
Alright thanks alot guys, this computer is at my school so ill update you all tomorrow.

I tried different disks so that counts that out.

I believe the computer does have a SB Awe 64! Ill check that.

I will also try swapping the ram.
 
What kind of CD-Rom do you have in that system? It could be the CD-Rom has a dirty lens or it could be dying on you but most of the problems I see is old CD-Roms which requires specific drivers to operate properly. I know it can read some of the CD's data but would not read all the way through. Try replacing the CD drive or manually install the drivers in the Config.sys and autoexec.bat.

Also how do i rma to crucial?
 
Its the ram, it works now on the really old piece.

I cant believe its the crucial, never had a problem with this stuff before, dosent mean i wont stop buying it...

Will they just send me a new piece?

good to hear that. To RMA basically I think you need to call them to get the RMA number first and then send back the ram to them
