My Dell Optiplex 9020 (8GB/256GB) was originally a Win7 machine. When I tried to install Win11 with a USB drive created with Rufus I got a BIOS message something about EUFI and changing to MBR instead of GPT. I pressed Enter and it shut down. When I pressed the Power button a few times nothing happened. After about a half hour I tried again, it did power on and I was able to install Linux Mint. Everything seems to work properly but I can't get it to Shutdown only Reboot!!! I did create a new W11 GPT install USB drive but it won't boot at all! I tried various BIOS boot options to no avail. Any ideas???

I don't have issues yet, but I'm trying to prepare myself for unpleasant surprises -- installing Windows 11 on dated hardware, but my systems of interest aren't as old as an i7-4770. I have two i7-6700 boxes with the same Z170 motherboard, and an i7-7700 with a different model of the Z170 under the same manufacturer.

I'm wondering if I can get Win 11 to install on Z170 chipsets. My intention is to perform my "experiment" with WinBootMate. And I'm also wondering if I need to tweak the BIOS to assure that it's 100% UEFI and Secure Boot ready.

I found some Win 11 Pro 64-bit retail "sealed box" offerings online for about $60 each, and the source and descriptive information seems to be reliable. Win 11, after all, is to be replaced eventually with Windows 12.

If I have trouble with one of these installations, I should be able to recycle the software for the Series 2 Core Ultra system I intend on building around December, since they are retail releases of the OS.
