Ok, im having some trouble getting my girlfriends computer workin....

Her system is currently using the windows xp drivers for her Radeon VE DDR... When i try to install the new ones (so she can have OpenGL support) i get this error:

This Display driver is not compatable with the display adapter(s) installed in your system.

Anyone know whats goin on? The drivers im downloading from ATI are supposed to be compatable with pretty much all their new cards...

I'm not to familiar with the radeon ve, but I do have the aiw 7500. I also had problems installing drivers the first time. (I had a gf mx). What you need to do is go into device manager and delete the display device reboot and thn try to install the newer drivers. Which drivers are you using? There seems to be a few floating around. I have had good luck with beta ones, but the newest non-beta ones did'nt like open gl in quake2. MS also has some new drivers in windows update, but I haven't used them and am wondering if gl is even supported in those.

Good luck and I'll keep an eye on this thread for the next hour or so, so if I can help I'll chime in.

Actually, after doing a little research.... I found out her graphics card ISNT made by ATI, its POWERED by Ati.... From what i see, i just need to reference drivers for this card, not the regular ones... im lookin into it right now :)

Thanks though.... I'll update with what happens

You may already know, but if not- try checking out www.rage3d.com they seem to have good links and stuff about radeon related stuff.

Powered by ati might be different for some reason as far as drivers go. I also heard that some oem cards have problems with ati's driver install thing too.

Ok well the Reference Drivers installed fine... We restarted... It was acting ok, then it started go slow down a little (hourglass for 20 seconds on a 1.4 Athlon means something isnt right)...

Then we were uninstalling a program (Belarc Advisor) and her monitor went black and the light turned orange (all of a sudden). We held the power button down to turn it off. Left it for 30 seconds, turned it back on. When it got to windows it said it recovered from a serious error from the display driver. A few minutes later it decided to restart itself. Anyone know whats goin on?? Her system is really unstable now...

Which drivers did you use?

I seem to have good luck with my aiw7500 with wxp-766-04-020129x-2545e drivers. Not sure where I got them I think it was at ati's or the rage3d site.

Ive tried the beta drivers as well. The card wont take em, i think its cause its not the real ati, just powered by. Im really cofused on why it would be doing this, it seemed to accept the drivers fine. And yea, shes on broadband.

Athlon XP 1600+
Win XP Pro (installed fresh)
128 DDR
Radeon VE DDR

Well i reverted back to her old drivers, the ones included with XP. The system is still really unstable... Im gonna take the whole thing apart and put it back togeather. Im worried it could be a bad PS.

I read somewhere that a person installed the drivers not using the driver install setup, but by doing it through an inf file or something. There was a thread or two about oem radeon cards and drivers sometime back.

Good luck with it.

<< EpoX 8KHA Mb >>

is that the + or the older one? Also grab another stick of 128(preferably 256...) same brand memory( hope its Crucial or Mushkin...even PNY is ok..) as WinXP is a memory hog
