Can't install printer

So I was trying to install this old HP LaserJet 2420 via USB in an XP Pro machine. I downloaded the latest drivers from HP's website (Universal printing driver). During setup everything goes normal, up until the point where Windows detects the new hardware and starts copying the drivers files. Then it asks for "pclxl.dll', which is not located neither in the drivers\caches directory nor in the drivers I previously downloaded.

So... what gives? How do I install this printer?

Thanks in advanced.

Google it and download the file?

That's what I always do, there are sites out there that stock dll files people may need for download.

DarkRogue has it right. Its a frequent occurrence that either XP does not have the dll or has moved it elsewhere. So knowing where the dll is supposed to be is part of the problem.

Sadly HP tech support is little help on a been there and done that basis. But its still a big help when they identify the missing dll. And that dll may be just the first of many you will have to download before its finally installs.
