can't install new software/drivers in XP pro

every time i try to install a piece of software that requires a reboot i get a can't load mount drive or something error beofre xp pro starts up.. it says disable video cache or shadowing or uninstall the programs and try again.. if i boot into safe mode and remove the program it will boot up... why does this happen? i've tried it with the new geforce drivers and nero and my studio pctv software all the same thing happens... any help?? and yes i'm trying to install xp drivers not 98/me drivers.

In your BIOS, try finding the setting for the Video BIOS cache and Video Ram Shadowing... disable these...

those features are for older video cards with little onboard ram... the newer cards dont need caching

I don't know if this is causing the problem you have, but am pretty sure you dont want these enabled

okies,

next thing to try might be the MotherBoard drivers... ("cant mount drive...)

I don't know what MoBo you are on, but if XP installed natives for it (AGP, IDE, etc..)

you might want to try going back to them.

Of course, on the flip side, if you are presently on Native MoBo drivers, you might want to

see if updated drivers are available.

(sorry, so vauge, but I am guessing in the dark here)

I'm assuming you have no warnings showing in the device manager ????

note: I have read some posts where people had difficulties after installing latest 4-in-1's' on XP

If it matters, I am running natives here with no MoBo related probs. so far (knock on wood)
