Can't hit 200 FSB on multiple Mobile XPs

I usually read quite a bit from anandtech forums to get a good grasp on something before I try it.
However, I've had a Thoroughbred B 1700+, and 2 Mobile XPs (45 watt Mobile 2600+ and 35 watt Mobile
2200+) and I haven't been able to get any of them up to 200 Mhz on the FSB. I upped the voltage to 1.65V, but I didn't really think that was necessary to get a 2 Ghz even overclock (10 x 200) and it didn't work anyway. The only other thing I can think of is my memory which is supposedly rated PC3200 (Corsair Value Ram). I've checked other posts and seen suggestions such as increasing the VDimm or further increasing the CPU voltage. Any other suggestions?

Abit NF7-S 2.0
1 Gig Corsair Value Ram (512 x 2 running as spd settings)
35 watt Mobile XP 2200+ (right now at 166x12 at 1.45V)
Radeon 9600 Pro is not overclocked
Leadman Powmax 500 watt PS (not a crappy Powmax, an earlier and seemingly better one)

try boosting your ram voltage. inrease your cpu voltage to 1.75 or so and boost your chipset voltage just a bit

Relax your timings, increase the voltage a bit, then tighten the timings again once you obtain stability.

I would set the RAM to 3-4-4-11, and max out the voltage on it. Oh yeah, and bump up your chipset voltage as well; I can't run 200FSB at the default setting. That's probably the problem here.

my mobile barton wouldn't hit over 166 mhz.

then i tried a beta bios with the built in L12 mod and i can now get up to 220 mhz easy.

try one of the beta bioses... see if it works... i'm sure that may fix your problem...

or try one of the more recent bioses like 24.

Seems like a lot of people's NF7-S boards are having hissy fits when coupled with the Bartons. Good thing I'm getting a DFI :p
Do what Shimmi says, that should get you over the top. The CPU is definitely capable of doing it.

bartons have hissy fits on other motherboards too,i had a similar experience with Asus and blame the motherboard because the same CPU did 250 on my Lanparty and Infinity.

I've tried relaxing settings and increasing voltages to no avail, still I'm satisfied enough to avoid the L12 mod and I certainly don't want to RMA the board (I can live with 166 Mhz I suppose). On my mobile 2600+ I could reach 2500 Mhz on the 166 Mhz bus, seemingly less on the mobile 2200+. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

you odn't need to mod your chip for the L12 mod anymore.

you can download a beta bios that has the l12 mod built in.

it works... but if you don't want to try, then it's your loss that you're losing money by running pc3200 ram at pc2700 speed.

I had looked for the beta bios earlier, but not very hard. After the last post I thought I'd try it again and after a few links I got the bios. Tried it and ... it works great. I haven't tinkered with it yet, but I'm just glad to finally hit 200 Mhz on the FSB at 2.0 Ghz. Now for some adjustments. Thanks for the advice again.

with a mobile 2500, ive been able to get 11.5 x 205 stable at 1.65v on my nf7-s v2 with my HyperX (2x512) PC3200 at 2-3-2-6 timings. No alternate bios, no changes to vdimm, etc. Everything stock except for uping the FSB and vcore.

My NF7-S had troubles with Corsair XMS PC3200, I could only get 196FSB max. So I went back to my Kingston and I'm at 202FSB.

Have had two NF7-S v2.0 boards all running mobiles, both have had Mushkin Level One and Kingston Value ram in them. One went to 200 but not higher, the other levels out at about 211 before issues arise. All luck of the draw I suppose. BTW: Where are you getting the beta bioses from? I have looked into the TicTac bioses but am never sure which one to install and there is no doc as to which one to pick...

maybe that was just the memory.. we're only talking 6MHz...
Kingston kicks ass too, so maybe that's why :D

how about running the system with only:

CPU
MOBO with latest bios
Memory
floppy drive
disconnect all that are not needed.

OC from 166 and run memtest and windows version of mem test
then bump to 200x10 and bump voltage to 1.8-1.85....then relax memory timings as you go up..

what HSF do you have?

Good luck
