It seems only one computer can connect to the internet at once, while the connection seems fine otherwise. Any idea what would cause this?

Netgeer 4-port 802.11b router.

That situation would occur with a Switch because it lacks NAT. However Routers have this feature which allows them to have multiple computers connected at one time.

EDIT: Sorry, wrong interpretation. Are the cables plugged in firmly? Is the router have the latest firmware?

You should ba able to. Try having both computers ping the router with the command :

Ping * -t

Where * is the routers IP.
Do this on both computers at the same time.

Also, did you hook up the modem to the WAN port? (the one away from the others)

I had two via wireless when the problem occured, it seems to work fine with one wired and one wireless. They bothed seems connected, it was just DNS problems, one would see the net and one would not. I then disabled the network on the working one and the second machine started working. Wierd.

It seems to be a problem with conflicting IPs.

What is the status of your DHCP Server?

What are the IPs that are assigned to both computers?

What do you mean by DNS problem?

Maybe DNS was the wrong term, basically the web browser would complain that the page was not found, yet the network applet said it was connected and happy. I'll have to connect both again and note their IPs, though I'm not sure how they could get the same IP from the router unless I restricted the IP range down to one.
