Can't get Windows 2000 machine on existing home network (Windows ME)?

I have an existing home network that was set up through Windows Me home networking wizard. A couple of computers running windows 98 or Me connected to a hub. It was easy to set up and run, and I had no problems sharing files or my dial-up internet connection through Windows ICS.

Now I upgraded one machine to a dual boot with Windows 2000 and Me... The network still works in Me, but when I start Windows 2000 they don't connect together? I have changed the workgroup in 2000 to the home group, and still nothing...

The hub lights flash as the network cards talk to each other, but nothing connects?

Any ideas?

Desktop running Windows 2000 has the following settings...
Under "Components checked are using this connection", the ones checked are:
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

after clicking Properties tab for Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Use the fillowin IP address
IP address 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

Use the following DNS server addresses
Preferred DNS Server: Blank
Alternate DNS Server: Blank

after clicking Advanced tab
IP settings tab
settings as above

DNS tab
Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes
Append parent suffixes of the primary dns
register this connection's addresses in DNS

Wins tab
Enable LMHOSTS lookup
enable netbios over tcp/ip

Laptop running windows me (this setup cannot really be altered as it is my work machine and connects to the network there most days...)
obtain IP address automatically
use DCHP for WINS resolution
disable DNS

Bindings:
client for microsoft networks
file and printer sharing

I disabled a network protocol in windows 2000 that was associated with AOL. Now I seem to be able to see the laptop and access it (but finding it and moving to the next screen is really slow), but when I try and access the desktop I am prompted for a password?

So the questions would be:

1) How do I speed up the network connections (I am using 10/100 cards and a 10/100 hub)?

2) How do get access to the desktop from the laptop? -> Get beyond the password request or find out what my laptop is using as a user name and login (currently is just using windows settings == no password / no username promt at startup)

3) How can I set up ICS with a dial-up isp that doesn't allow me to use simple dial-up networking to gain access (like aol or netzero which have their own dial-up programs).

Thanks

You need to do two things on your windows 2000 pc.
Install Net Bui so they can see each other.
Enable your guest account.

PM if you need more help.

Ok got my guest account enabled, and set up with no password so I can use any machine on the network anytime without changing their network from windows login.

Now the Laptop and Desktop see each other, and can trade files...

Should I re-enable the WAN associated with AOL, to allow me to ICS through AOL?
If not any ideas as to what I would do to enable ICS using dial-up AOL or Netzero? Where I have to use their software to connect to the internet, for the connection to be active?

Thanks
