Hi!

I bought an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro this week, and after installing the drivers and the Control Panel, I tried to configure the display for TV-Out without success....

I go to Display Properties/Settings and try to attach the secondary display, but after I apply the settings, it's disabled automatically, as if I had no TV connected to the video board What am I doing wrong? I had a GeForce 2MX-400 before and never had problems with TV-Out.... Please help!!

Thanks in advance!

You need to have the TV connected and turned on before powering the computer up.
Then you can run the TV as a clone of the 1st display, as an independent 2nd display, or in Theater Mode where the TV shows a fullscreen copy of any video overlay that's being played on the primary display. Switching to and fro these three modes is a bit tricky to get at first. Practice :)

Make sure that you have all the traces of your old nVidia drivers wiped out. Actually I think the only sure-fire way is a clean OS reinstall!

No, I still suspect User Error. You EITHER set the thing to clone mode and stay with one display surface, OR activate a secondary display and run two heads with individual contents.

I hope so, but with my GeForce2, I had no difficulties. Allow me to explain what I did so far:

1) Reinstalled Windows Xp from scratch
2) Installed the Radeon 9600 drivers
3) Went to Control Panel\ Display Properties\Settings -> NOW, I see two displays: the primary one, which is my monitor, and the secondary one, which I suppose would be my television. he problem is, this secondary display is unavailable. I then right click on it and choose 'Attached'. Then I apply the settings and the secondary display gets unavailable again!

One more important thing: choosing the primary display and then getting to the advanced settings, on the 'Displays' tab, there are four displays: Monitor, YPbPr (?), TV and FPD. The last three are unavailable, showing that there are no cable connection between them and the card... But my TV IS connected. TV-Out worked flawlessly with my old Geforce2MX....

I'm waiting for your help, people! Thanks in advance....

If you cannot enable the TV on the Displays page, then the card hasn't detected the TV set. This happens when the TV's input doesn't impose the correct electrical load onto the signal. (This is how the card detects the TV.)
Try another TV set and/or cable for detection.
YPbPr btw is the "component" output used by HDTV sets. ATi offers a converter plug to go onto the DVI-out.

MAKE SURE you have those WDM drivers installed (unless that's an NVidia thing)

I had the same problem on a Ti4200 and when I installed the WDM drivers it worked fine.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what WDM drivers are you talking about?? Besides the own card drivers, should I install something else?? Where do I get these drivers?

I've tested other cables and still can't get the damn thing to work! I'm really worried now!! I mean, it would be a LOT of bad luck if the video card came with a bad connector! I hope the problem lies elsewhere!

Radeons don't need an extra driver for TV-out. Those that have Video-In do.

Dammit the card just CAN'T see that there's a S-Video cable plugged in it!! I can't believe the card's video-out connector is bad or something.... It can't be! :Q

My TV does not have to be powered-on for it to be detected (I don't know about if it was unplugged).

Do not mess with the Display drop-down box on the Settings tab, just use the Displays tab.

If it is greyed out then it was not detected for some reason. If you are using the same cable and same TV as with the previous card then this one must be defective but I still suspect user err. :p

OK people I just noticed one thing... my S-Video cables have four pins, my Gefroce2 had four holes.... but the Radeon 9600 has SEVEN holes! So, I guess I should try a S-Video cable with seven pins???

I never heard of a S-Video cable with this number of pins... What type of cable are you people with radeons using???

they are supposed to come with a s-video to patch adapter, use that if you can't get the s-video to work.

I've not had this problem.

Can anyone confirm if the Radeon 9600 Pro by ATI comes with an 7-pin adapter for S-video?? Or is this optional? I really need to know, because if it does come with the card, I'm in trouble.

OK I've checked the web site and there it says that the card does NOT come with TV-Out adapter nor cable, which are optional.

The extra pins are to facilitate composite output from the same connector and that is what the adapter is for. A standard S-Video cable is all that is required.

Although my GeForce2MX worked, could the problem be with the TV? Its connector is RCA, so I always needed an adapter.

I really think (and hope) that the problem is not with my card connector...

Gee, it took awhile for you to cough up this critical tidbit of information. Yes, to use RCA composite you need the appropritate adapter on the card end. It should have come with the card, even VAR/OEM/bare/brown/white/box! Only the shadiest retailers sell the card without the CD/adapters/cables and try to charge extra for them. That's why it is good to shop at newegg, allstarshop, googlegear, etc that are reliable and usually have full descriptions of what is included, if not pictures. So, firstly I would contact your seller for the adapter. Otherwise they can be ordered directly from ATI or you might check e-Bay. But do not waste your time with anything other than an authentic ATI part or it likely will not work or will be in black and white.

You want the YELLOW round cable correct ?!

you have to have a s-video to composite adapter, and as mentioned in the post above mine contact the seller or buy it from ati, or I could sell you mine.

let me know
