Can't get rid of LCD image persistence :(

My Dell 2005FPW is having issues with image persistence. I work long hours in a music sequencer, so it's now a ghostly image on my LCD :) I've managed to get rid of it almost entirely via the technique where you bring up an all-white image on the screen and leave it on for a day or so. But there are still these weird smudge-like areas that look like thin clouds of image persistence.. I can't seem to get rid of them. I'll see if I can take a picture of it later and post.. it's hard to describe. It almost looks like dust, but it's not, my screen is clean.

Maybe you could run the program used for unsticking pixels? Y'know, the one that puts up a continually randomized set of pixels to stress the LCD display.

And no I haven't tried turning it off for a few days.. I've heard that doesn't help image persistence. Besides, I use that machine daily and I HAVE to use it.. so.. that's a no go

usually turning the monitor off for as long as it was on clears the residual image.

but you seem unwilling to try

Just turn the monitor off for a night. My Cinema Display retains an image of the Dock when its been for awhile (measured in weeks), but hiding the Dock for a few hours clears it up.

My monitor auto shuts off after 30 mins of idle time. So it IS off every night, all night.. doesn't help.

WELL, even if you are unwilling to turn it off

try turning it off for a day to see if it helps... i work for tech support for CAD programs... having a proven work around is better than none

make it so it turns off after 1 min of idle...

what he said, thats not a residual image, you have fubarred it some how by mashing on it.

Yeah.. I pressed on the LCD and banged on it, yelling "GO AWAY, GHOST IMAGES"

No of course I didn't press on the LCD, it's a $500 piece of equipment. I know better than that. The LCD has never seen any kind of pressure, damage, blunt force, nothing. I have no idea how those marble looking streaks showed up.

Anyone have any ideas?

Wow, go figure. I turned the LCD off while I was at work today.. I come home, turn it on, those weird marble-like textures are gone 100%. I don't get it. My monitor goes into power save mode every day.. after 30 mins, it turns off. I don't see how actually powering down makes a difference. But it did.

Thanks for the advice.. the monitor is like brand new again. :)

Your lucky. My old NEC 2080UXi was completely ruined by image persistence. Looked like water had leaked into the top of the monitor. Its common on IPS panels i believe. I am unsure to whether S-PVA or MVA panels suffer but from people who i have spoke to who own such panels have never had problems.

You know you can change the monitor power off settings in "Display Properties" right?

Yeah I know how to change the power off settings :) That's what I'm saying.. those settings are set so the monitor turns off after 30 mins of idle time. So it's off all day long. Yet actually hitting the POWER button on the monitor is what got rid of the image persistence. This proves beyond a doubt that there is some difference between the "power save" off mode (w/ the blinking amber LED) and actually shutting the monitor off.

And Showtime..funny you should mention that ;) I already ordered the 2407WFP, such a great deal at $629. It arrives tomorrow!

There is DEFINITELY a difference between power save, and power off. I turn my LCD off every time I leave the room, even if it's to grab a soda or watch an episode of the simpsons...

Yeah definitely relieved.. sure the monitor is a few years old, but it's a nice 20" widescreen, it'd be a shame for it to be permanently ruined. Now it's good as new!

Eh, bad news. Apparently those weird ghost images slowly show up again the longer I have my monitor on (the 2005FPW). I guess it's just getting old...
