Can't Get rid of grain on my paint job......help

Ok, I've been following this Painting Tutorial and everything seems to go good, until I start using the rubbing compound. No matter what I do with this rubbing compound, i will always get some scratches on the case. The reflections will be just incredible, but these scratches are just horrible.

I don't know what i can do to get rid of these. I thought that 2000 grit sandpaper should get it extrememly smooth. 😉 Its very dissapointing spending this much time on it, and not getting decent results. The case would look fantastic, I could use it as a mirrror, if only these slight scratches would go away.

Thanx for the help.

What kind of cloth are you using? Clean the case surface before buffing, and make sure that the rag/cloth is very clean as well. Any debris can cause scratches.
How deep are the scratches that you are trying to get out? What were they caused by?

If that doesnt work try yelling at it.

Oooh, I get it, the sonic waves will eventually cause the molecules in the paint to jiggle themselves smooth. I get it now.😀
😛

Rubbing compound will take it up to about 5000 grit, still enough to see scratches.

Regular car polish will take that up to about 10000 grit.

For real good, you need some proper optic stuff. There is some good stuff mentioned in that tutorial. I have used something similar to that, can't remember the name tho, but it's specifically designed for optics and glass/mirrors. That should i think take it up to about 20k grit, maybe more.

But as Jeff7 said, you HAVE to make sure the rag is totally clean, nothing on it, or that will scratch it.

As for car places, they will probably only use 1500 grit sandpaper, and a little rubbing compound, cos with cars you are generally further back from the paint. Unless you can find a VERY specialist (read: EXPENSIVE 😉) paint shop, then they might be able to point you in right direction as to some really fine stuff 🙂

Uh, no, I think it'd be better to just yell at it for the sake of yelling at it.

Yeah, if you yell at it, you'll feel better.
And your case will know it is being bad.
Bad case.

Thanx for all the great help guys. Sorry it took me so long to reply, been busy. I think I'm just gonna try getting a really clean rag and going at it with some rubbing compound, then trying this scratch remover stuff I got an auto store. I figure if I"m patient enough, it will eventually have to get rid of the scratches.

Thanx again.
