Can't get outlook (NK2 cache) autocomplete to transfer to a new PC

Hi,

I'm swapping out a pc for a client and he wants his list of autocomplete email names to be moved as well. This is the thing that fills in the rest of the email address when you start to type the first few letters. I found a couple guides for it online, telling me I need to move the NK2 file (under c:\documents and settings\username\application data\microsoft\outlook) but this doesn't fix it. I even tried reinstalling office but haven't had any luck.

Is this possibly stored in the OST file or somewhere else?

no, it is that file.

Create a profile and then it will make a new N2K file, then replace that one with the one from the other PC naming it the same. I've done it before and it's worked for me.

I've done this and it doesn't auto fill in the email names. It'd be nice of MS actually included the backup settings feature like they did with office 2003...but some retard apparently decided we don't need that feature anymore!

I wipe user profiles often (did one today in fact) and I can confirm 100% that all you need is that .NK2 file for autocomplete email addresses for Outlook 2003.

Make sure it's in the Application Data/Microsoft/Outlook folder

Also, make sure the name is the exact same as the profile name. If it doesn't match then it won't work in Outlook.

agreed there, backup settings feature should be a no brainer!! i use Mozbackup for thunderbird and it works really well!

If MS would spend a little time to make things more transparent and less convoluted that kind of stuff shouldn't be necessary. When I switched machines at work I just remotely mounted /home via NFS and poof all of my settings were there on the new machine. I didn't even have to fix any permissions since my UIDs were the same. If I were running Windows it would've taken hours to set everything up again and even then I'm sure I would've missed a lot of little things.
