Can't get online with .NET Framework installed???

My brother bought Visual Studio .NET for a programming class he's taking. When he installed it on his computer (XP Pro) he is no longer able to get on the internet.

This happened before when .NET framework was installed as an automatic update, and when I uninstalled the framework it started working fine again.

What does the .NET framework do that prevents any internet access??? Is there a way to fix it without uninstalling it? He needs all the .NET shxt for his class so I can't take it off.

The weird thing is I can still see his computer on the network and am able to send him files to his shared folder, but he can see nothing from his end 😕

NEVERMIND, I just reformatted. Works ever time.

That is odd. I would like to know the solution to this as well. A few of my friends had this happen (Just lost internet) and I wonder if that .NET framework is the problem. Bump for you.

Has he lost network connectivity all together? If you go to Start / Run and type ipconfig, is an IP address listed? Have you tried updating the network card drivers?

DHCP isn't working for some reason, so I set the IP static and set the gateway correct (Linksys Router).

I just updated the drivers and he can browse the network and send files back and forth, but no internet connectivity.

This problem only occurs after the .NET framework has been installed.

I've been running Visual Studio .NET since the first release, and moved to 2003. I have also run the .NET framework since the beta release. I have never experienced such a problem.
