can't get nvidia driver control panel to load

i downloaded nvidia driver 163.71 straight off of nvidia's website. i uninstalled the old driver, used driver cleaner, and installed the new driver. when i try to load the control panel nothing happens. is there way to fix this? please help.

 
Try to re-install the driver, and turn-off your Anti Virus and/or other Security software.

Also, before installation, turn off in Task Manager all the USER tasks except for the explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe. Do not touch SYSTEM, LOCAL or NETWORK services.

hi,

thanks for your help. i think it's my antivirus causing the issue. i'm using nod32. i even installed the video driver using safe mode and it installs fine but when i login to windows normally the control panel seems to be disabled. i don't understand. what is different about these new drivers? why would nod32 detect the control panel as a threat?

It shouldn't. Other antivirus programs like AVG and Symantec have never false-positived when I install nVidia-related utilities and drivers.

Coincidentally or not, it seems like this guy in the CPU subforum case across a false positive with NOD32 as well.
 
You know, people complain about Norton being "bloated" and causing slowdowns, but it is the best security software IMO.

I have been using the Norton Internet Security 2007 for over 1 year now, and it works GREAT, both in XP and Vista. I even play games without disabling it and there is no slowdowns or anything.

The only time it seems to "paralize" my computers is the startup, when it checks for updates and runs a "quick scan", and every 4 hours checking for updates (especially my single core Sempron laptop...)

I would strongly recommend it for you guys to try it - it can sometimes be had for free after rebates, and it is licensed for three computers.

And I have never had any conflicts with any installations, although I disable the Auto Protect doing this.

And I did have problems with Zone Alarm Security and CA Security...
