Hello everyone
I was wondering. I have a belkin d-link wireless router and when i plug my internet in to it and run a line from there to my computer its not getting a signal
but when i go from the modem straight to the computer it works great
so what i was wondering is if the router needs software drivers or something
im using windows 7 as well. i tested the router at work and know that its working well.

also the router i have has wireless and i need to secure the connection because right now its unsecure with no password how might i go about doing that.

Any reply's help thanks.

There is No belkin D-Link Router.

There is either Belkin, or D-Link, it is different Brands.

In any case, you probably need to take care of the ISP authentication (Password and ID) in the Router to initiate the connection.

How to Fix Cable/DSL Internet authentication (password, id) - http://www.ezlan.net/broadband.html

Your Router's manual should describe it (I never used a Router like yours).

Sounds more like you are connecting to a different wireless AP to me. If you power down the Belkin router and scan for wireless ap's, do you still see the d-link ssid?

Yeah I'd say your connecting to someone's unsecured dlink wireless. If you don't have internet when you plug into the belkin router - you won't have internet on the wireless IF your connecting to the belkin's wireless. Do you have cable or DSL? Who's your ISP?

If the router came from your work there is a very good chance the wireless is disabled. At my last clients the first we had to do when testing something like a router was to disable the wireless. So much so that we had a sign on the lab door to remind us that the wireless must be disabled.

The reason for disabling the wireless was that it interfered with the on site wireless on the clients LAN provided by the client's IT/IS department.

Your best bet is to plug it in, then take a paper clip to the reset button in the back for about 10 seconds to reset it back to factory defaults to clear out any settings that may be there - then it'll be set back to square one for settings.

Not necessarily. He said he got the router from work, which means it was possibly a replacement part to a previous configuration (which may have had "d-link" as the ssid). Instead of changing every laptop in the office, they simply would have kept the same ssid and settings as the previous router/wireless.

Remember if you are connecting cable modem to it, then likely you will need to reboot the cable modem when you change the device its plugged into
