The name says it all. I have this hp scanjet 3300C (usb) hooked up to my machine and it won't work. I've done just about every install and update from hp.com i could find. I'm leaning more towards the USB is malfunctioning because when you plug in the usb cable to this machine (with the scanner's power connected and on) it should find new hardware...right? what's the deal? thanks for the help!!!

What doesn't it do?

Need more input.
(OS, Brand of PC, any other USB Devices hooked up)

Did you install the drivers before plugging the Scanner in?

this is a HP Pavilion 4533 with a normal copy of win98se installed...the scanner is/should be the only USB device. I'm pretty sure I installed the drivers before hand....What should i do if i didn't? Any other questions?

If you didn't install the driver first, you need to
remove the driver from the Control Panel \ Add Remove Programs
Do a Search from Windows Explorer for the following:
scanjet*
hpsc*
hpsj*

Highlight and Delete all the files found. Make sure to empty them from the Recycle Bin.

Next, make sure that it is not listed in the DEVICE MANAGER.
Power down PC.

Unplug the scanner from USB port. Unplug the Power from scanner.

Reboot into Safemode. Re-install the scanner driver/software. Shut down.
(installing under Safe-Mode will generally go smoother because few drivers are loaded)

Reconnect the scanner to the USB port. Reconnect the Power to scanner.

Start the PC. You should then see the NEW HARDWARE prompt and the driver being loaded.

Go to Start \ Settings \ Control Panel \ Scanners and Cameras
and verify the scanner is listed.

I just did everything you said...but no success. Could it be the USB cable or something? How can i check to make sure my USB settings are what they need to be, etc?? The scanner definitely works because the scanner light comes on when the power gets connected.... Thank you for your help! Keep it coming!

Did the OS detect the NEW HARDWARE?

Are you getting specific errors installing or scanning?
Saying "it doesn't work" does not help much.

The light coming on does not mean the scanner works.
I have a pile of those and others whose lights come on but thats it....

When the light comes on, does the CCD Bar move (warm-up)?

Also check to see if USB is enabled in the bios. I"m sure it is but just for safe measure.

Alright....thanks for the replies for one thing. Win98SE did not detect any new hardware. I've installed the drivers for the scanner, and no CCD bar warms up. Also, I do not have anything about USB in my BIOS. For the record, this scanner did work when I used the win98SE install/recovery disk that HP provided with this particular machine.

Edit: Under DevManager, my USB settings are "Standard OpenHCI USB Host Controller" and a "USB Root Hub"
