I tried the microsoft solution below:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=302361

I've tried reinstalling the print driver on both the local and remote desktops.

The printer in question is a Canon ImageCLASS MF5550. I cannot print to a locally connected printer from remote desktop. Printer is checked in the local resources box.

Please help. I'm losing my mind.

How about providing just a little more info about your setup?
Also, that 'solution' has very little if anything with setting up a normal shared printer. Maybe you are running the remote desktop & terminal services for whatever reason it does have more to do with your situation, but still doesn't read like it has much to do with normal printer sharing.

At any rate, here is one of the many google results on sharing a printer, you should give this a try. If you did already and still had problems, you should have mentioned those too.

EDIT: At first I thought you were just over complicating setting up a shared printer on a local network, but now I'm rethinking that. Ah well, if the basic sharing setup helps, all the better, if not, good luck.

Maybe a printer permissions issue? Are you using the same account to access the remote machine that you are logged in with on the local box?

The first part of getting a remote printer is making the registry change to get an TCP/IP printer to be "passed through" from the computer you are using to connect to the server. The second part is to have the EXACT SAME printer driver installed on both sides.

An example of this issue would be that the the server has a PCL 6 driver and your computer has a PCL 5 driver.

I have also run into a couple of copiers that did not work in remote printing. Some copiers have a universal print driver that once loaded on both the server and computer work better for RDP printing.
