Can't Get Input Devices to Playback Through Laptop

I've got a Dell Inspiron laptop and would like to have my iPAQ and my iPOD playback through the laptop speakers.

I've checked all the sound modules and made sure all were unchecked by mute and made sure volume was all the way up.

CD's output sound just fine.

I've got either the iPAQ or the iPOD plugged into the microphone jack on the side of the laptop.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Microphone jack is mono, so it wouldn't be right anyways. What you need is an input jack, which you don't have. USB might be your only good option. And i have have a ipaq and i still haven't been able to get it to play off my computer with usb attached, but i haven't messed around with it that much.
