I just installed a new OEM Radeon 9800 PRO in my rig. It boots up fine and get an image when I hook it up to the Sub-D plug, but I get nothing out of the DVI plug. I have it plugged into a Dell FP-2000 which has worked fine until I installed this video card. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Some LCDs have a switch on the front that selects DVI or Analogue mode, make sure it`s in DVI mode.Try a different DVI lead to rule out yours being faulty.

As MEM said, but also, in the ati driver section is an area to pick which is run, dvi, or regular vga.... check there as well.

I have made sure to switch the LCD input to DVI but there is no picture. I also used the DVI to SUB-D adapter and plugged in the analog cable that works fine when hooked up to the SUB-D output...but alas there is no signal.

Where do you select which output you want to use Big Lar? I have looked through the ATI driver tabs and can't seem to find anything useful. I am running Catalyst 4.3 drivers.

Well, I contacted ATI support and they were useless. They simply sent me a link to their support pages, which I have naturally already checked...along with the User's guide. Can nobody here help me?

Sometimes my 2001fp doesnt intialize on the DVI under certain circuimstances. I just switch the panel off and then on and it works. Maybe give that a try.

I have tried turning the LCD off, but that still does not work. I am already switching it to the DVI input (it appears on the screen as I switch it over from the SUb-D). I also tried my friends DVI cable and still nothing...so it is not the cable either. UGH this is frustrating. I am gonna go plug my LCD into his machine to make sure the DVI input works there...but I am running out of ideas here.

Well, I just plugged my LCD into my friend's machine and switched it over to DVI input and the LCD works fine...so now I am positive it is the video card. The question is...Is my video card defective or am I just dumb and can't figure out how to switch the output. I have tried to extend my desktop to the secondary display in the video settings tab and to set it as primary and nothing works. The properties for the monitor on the secondary adapter are all grayed out as if it does not detect one despite the fact that it is plugged in via the DVI output. ARGHHHHH.

Ive heard of some OEM video cards that have DVI connector but are not enabled for DVI usage.

Really? The DVI is disabled? Where did you read this and can you point me at a page with more info. This way I can point this out to ATI support or New Egg to get a new card. Thanks mastertech01

Not for 9800 cards, the RAMDAC are internal on the 9800 so no funny business like some OEMs and the 8500 card(some OEMS omitted the external secondary RAMDAC on the 8500 cards)

btw, Even in the case of the 8500 cards, the DVI-D connector would still support a DFP.

Here's a long thread concerning Radeon DVI and Flat panels. I haven't read it recently, but maybe some info?

Hmmmm...thanks for the links guys.

rbV5 that thread you pointed me to sounds like other people are having the same problem. I originally had Catalyst 3.9 drivers on my machine and when I ran into these problems, I upgraded to 4.3. I also finally got an ATI support person to send me information other than just pointing me at their FAQ.

He pointed me here. It seems that they have had problems with 9600 cards and any drivers after 3.8. Unfortunately I RMAed my card this morning, so I will not be able to test this theory out until I get the new card. Ugh...another week without my gaming rig. Thanks again for the help
