Can't get DVD burner to burn...

I am trying to burn a backup to DVD, using a Benq DVD Dual DW1610. I installed the burner a while back, but have never used it. Using Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator 6, I get the following error message: " E80070057: The parameter is incorrect. " Any idea what this means and what I can do to correct it? Thanks.

Yes, it is produced by a German company. Nothing against Germans, it just seems overengineered to me.

Dude, WTF? Use Nero. The absolute best recording solution on the market. Have you ever seen Nero? where does this "overengineering" crap come from?

Use the Nero Express option, it's simple, easy interface and all, if you're so afraid of programs that have more that two buttons...

Tried updating the firmware and the same error message: " E80070057: The parameter is incorrect. " appears. Since I already have Roxio, I don't want to pay for Nero as well, sorry folks... Any ideas???

Kilgore just try the nero demo version just to see if it works. You can downlead it from nero.com

Check to see if DMA is enabled. (in Device Manager)

Oh, & try burning a CD & see if it works.

Just outta curiousity also, what motherboard do you have?

Apparantly it is an issue with media quality. From the Roxio boards:

E80070057: The parameter is incorrect

I've learned some info that may help other novices like myself. My NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A burner supports all media formats but is sensitive to the manufacturer of the media used (cheap DVD-R). I uninstalled Roxio and still had problems recognizing the media with Nero. Fortunately NEC's website http://www.necd.de/home.php/lang/ENG has firmware updates that enabled my burner to use the cheap DVD-R.

Can anyone recommend a good DVD RW media to try???

Thanks for replying n7,

Funny, I tried an Imation CD-RW in the Benq drive and it burned fine. So it must indeed be the Imation DVD-RW media. Damn. I don't see a reference for DMA for the drive in Device Manager (XP Home), but don't see one. Mobo is Asus P4B, 1.5G P4

Go to Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers (should look like that or similar) > Primary/Secondary IDE channel (whatever your drive is on) > right click > Properties > Advanced Settings tab, & it should say DMA enabled.

This is a wild longshot, since it's more than likely a media issue, but if there is no Advanced Settings tab showing there, you may have some chipset drivers issues.

Try using Nero (seriously, it's so much better than Roxio) with some good quality DVD media (go to CDFreaks.com for media advice) & see what happens :)
