she has a voodoo 3 2000 pci, and im guessing its trying to run the game with direct3d instead of the glide drivers, could this be why?

It gives an error saying it cannot switch video mode, even in safe mode it does not work.

Is there a way to choose what method to run the game? Like, with unreal tournament If I set the 3dfx glide drivers it runs much better then direct3d

Thanks!

Voodoo 3 supported direct3D, but drivers for it have not been updated in years. CS:Source only runs in Direct3D, so no GLIDE for you, it is dead and always will be. that card is way underpowered for the game.

I can play it well @ low res w/ my radeon mobilty 16 meg! (laptop :D)

heheh

Theres no way to change the drives some how to get it to work?

Ive tried about 3 drivers ive had, nothing worked...

Is there a good video card for < 40$ that could play the game rather well? Like a geforce 2 64 meg or something?

Thanks

You could get a used Geforce 3 or even Radeon 8500/9200 for about $40 on the FS/FT forum. Although, if your girlfriend is using a PCI video card, her computer might not have an AGP slot. Keep that in mind.

Its got AGP no worries..

How fast will a 9200 run? How about a geforce FX5200 w/ 128 megs of ram? Do they compare?

Thanks

i would personally stay away from super low end cards like the the 9200 and 5200. rather, get her a used ti 4200 for about the same price and you will have much greater performance, however, it will lack dx9 support. since you're on a tight budget, dx8 and dx9 won't matter for you anyways.

5200 :thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

TI 4200 :thumbsup:

Radeon 9600 or higher :thumbsup::thumbsup:

This is assuming you're on a budget, of course.

I stuck a GeForce3 into a SFF PC I'll be using at work to play some CS:Source on during breaks and it's surprisingly playable. 800x600, details on medium, bilinear filtering gets me 30fps in heavy gunfights and 90fps at other times.
