It's like this:

I'm running Windows 2000, I have all the latest drivers and Windows updates, and my computer runs well. However, whenever I try to play a DIVX type .avi file, I can't get sound! The video decompresses and runs just fine, but there is no sound whatsoever. I have no idea what the problem is. I've tried uninstalling and then reinstalling Windows Media Player. I've tried using other, non-Microsoft media players, I've tried yelling and screaming. Nothing - thus far - has worked.

The weirdest part of all of this is that this problem doesn't even effect ALL of the files I've tried playing. I have a movie, The Killer Bean 2 (great animated short!), which is DIVX encoded and runs with sound just great. It's just on every other DVIX I've tried playing, I've got no sound.

So, have any of you ever had anything like happen to you? If so, what did you do to fix it? What can I do to fix this? Help me, please!

Have you tried re-installing the DivX codecs. Maybe the standard DivX audio/MP3 decompressor has been removed and something else taken its place OR it has been set to a lower priority and an alternate one which isn't working set at a higher priority. This may explain why one movie has sound and others doesn't as it was encoded with MP3 and not 'DivX audio', or vice-versa, and hence plays with a different codec compared to the other video files.

Did you install DivX4? Try reading this thread at the forums at divx.com. I had the same problem come up when I installed DivX4, and the Nimo codec pack fixed it.
