I have a MSI BX Master that I cannot update the BIOS on. I downloaded the latest bios from MSI and put it on a floppy and after the Award Flash program loads I get an error saying "Unknown Flash Type". Does anyone know what this means? I would like to update the BIOS to get the added boot options and to allow the use of larger IDE drives.

Thats really odd cause I just picked up a BX Master and flashed it a half hour ago to 5.6

Be sure you have the right bios!! There are 3 versions? of the 6163 on the web site. Mine is the BX Master.

I just loaded a boot file to floppy and downloaded the bios, extracted it to the floppy and then booted it on the computer. It flashed automatically which I dont know if I like but worked fine.

Sounds like either the bios you got is wrong.

There is also a bios jumper to prevent flashing on the mb, check that out.

I'll have to look for the jumper. I have looked in the manual for a jumper but I have not found anything. Where was the jumper located on your board? I did find an option in the BIOS to disable the BIOS lock. I know that I have the right BIOS for the my BX master. All of the other 6163s have a different series of version numbers. The BX Master is the only one with a version starting with 5.x.

Edit: Found the jumper and was able to flash the BIOS.
