I am running Windows XP Professional and whenever i try to run Norton Disk Doctor or Windows Check Disk (chkdsk) utility with the "Fix Error" option on, the system will inform me that a certain process running has exclusive access to the HDD.

I cleared those proggies on the taskbar and also those in the registry but it is stil the same.

Anyone has any idea what exactly is this process running in the background that prevents me from scanning my HDD properly??

You can't run chkdsk on the C: drive when the OS is running, because the OS needs access to the drive. Chkdsk requires that the drive be dismounted to run.

So answer yes when asked if you want chkdsk to run on the next reboot, then reboot to run chkdsk.
