I heard that you apparently can't buy the iPad with cash at Apple Stores. Credit Card only. Interesting. Anyway, I've got better things to spend $500 on. My iPhone already does everything the iPad does, and it's a phone. Laptop for everything else.

I thought the same thing until I played around with one at Best Buy. I'm buying it as a compliment to my MacBook Pro and iPhone. My 13" MacBook Pro weighs 4.5 pounds. That may not seem like a not, but when carrying it around all day long during trade shows, it turns into a nuisance.

I'm gonna take the iPad along with me for trips such as those, for surfing around the house, and when I'm on vacation. My MBP will probably be relegated to more "desktop" duties.

I probably wouldn't get it if I didn't have the rewards built up, but since I have pretty much everything else I could ever want (and couldn't think of anything else to spend the $400 on), the iPad will make a nice addition to my gadget stash.

Preety much the same deal here. Won some extra money in Vegas a few weeks ago, went in to an Apple store there in Vegas, played around with one and ended up getting one. It's nice not having the hot laptop on the couch when watching TV, and I use it a lot more than I thought I would for other random things. I could totally live without it, it isn't the best thing since sliced bread, but it is a fun gadget that makes some of my daily activities easier and more enjoyable.

In other words, it will take them a week just to pack it up and ship it. If it takes the source 1 week to ship it, how long would it take a reseller to ship it?
When I buy shit from Newegg it takes about 5 business days to go from California to Alberta. OMG NEWEGG CONSPIRACY. It's an artificial shortage!!! Either that or California is like 1000 miles away. I don't own a map so I can't check that right now.

Forget the ipad. Get an iphone. You can use it as a telephone and it even sends text messages. If you can't afford one, the ipod touch is an iphone without the phone and it's 1/3 the price. I totally want an ipod touch right now but I don't have any money. I had to suck several men just to pay my internet bill.

i have a G2 Android phone with full internet access, an ipod touch, and a netbook. i don't need the iPad, i just want it after playing with a demo at Best Buy. it's got its downside, but there's no question that its a cool gadget. a lot more convenient it would be to take it with me on the road especially.

I've been casually looking as well. I really should wait fof the inevitable 4G.

One of the Bestbuys near my house has a few 32GB Wifi only versions. I really would prefer the 3G though and if they had a 16GB 3G I would have likely bought it.

I refuse to pay the extra $130 for the Wi-Fi version ON TOP of paying an extra data fee I already pay for my iPhone 3GS.

So I plan to just use my jailbroken iPhone as a Wi-Fi hotspot with MyWi :)

agreed. I do not however have a smart phone, iPhone or ipod. The $30 would just be used when I go on vacation or out of town. lol, after typing that I'm gonna call BS on myself, I would cough up that $30 every month no matter what was going on.

I'm really waiting to see what my job does. They offer a computer buying subsidy, I'm up to 40% this year. They specifically state no iPods but they haven't said no iPads.

I got one. I love it so far. Took it to Miami, NY, and Chicago instead of my laptop and it has served its purpose greatly on those trips while lasting a helluva lot longer than my macbook laptop's battery.

Haven't fired up the 3G yet, they lit up free wifi at my hospital 1 day before my 3G version arrived

Is it that OOS? I went to the mall last week to get my MBP fixed and I was playing with the iPad. The guy next to me wanted to buy one and they told him they only had 32gb versions, not the 16gb. But the sales guy went into the back and came out with a 16gb. Probably was just being lazyass and trying to get more sales revenue.

I presume you meant 3G, because WiFi in that sentence doesn't make sense.

I am doing the same. I have it running with MyWi on my JB'd iPhone. Apparently tethering like this is perfectly fine with the European cell companies and that's where I'm headed for a while.

I bought it for an upcoming trip to Europe. I bought the Camera Connector Kit to be able to read SD cards and not have to buy a laptop (I have a work-provided laptop that I'm not bringing because it's a 17" desktop-replacement ~8lb behemoth of a laptop).

As far as it's usefulness, I bought it pretty much entirely to entertain my children on car trips - watching movies and playing games together - for myself to use as a mini-laptop while travelling, and as an e-book reader. In reality, I use it for these things, but I also tend to use it a lot more than I thought that I would. I have it plugged in the kitchen next to the phone and everyone in the family has been picking it up and using it to check email. My wife used it as a cookbook a few nights ago. I was sitting down at dinner trying to remember if we paid the credit card bill and quickly looked it up online in a few minutes. It's been handy to have an always on device sitting around in the kitchen - much more than I would have thought.

So far so good. The screen is very bright and colorful, the battery life is really impressive, and it feels really fast and responsive when you use it. I'm pleased with my $500 (+$30 for the camera kit) so far. I could live without it, it's not a revolution, it's not magical and it is just a big iPod Touch... but it's been useful. I know people who have paid over $1000 for an in-car entertainment system. Compared to that, an iPad looks cheap.

I couldn't find it in any of the local stores either, so I had to buy it online. It shipped in 5 days... but from China and then took a fair bit longer than I thought it would to get here. As far as their "no cash" policy - given prices on Ebay, it makes sense. Anyone wanting to pay in cash should be able to find a friend with a credit card to help them buy it.

Im sorry to hear that :(

I'm glad I reserved one at the apple store, it made cancelling easier.

I'm going to sit on my hands until next year when the next best thing will be out or at least an ipad with 4G.
