Can't find a SATA to IDE converter card...

Hi folks,
I can't seem to find a card/dongle/whatever that will plug into an SATA HD and make it so that I can plug the converter into a PATA/IDE port on my mobo.

All I've been running into (e.g. on newegg) are devices like this that allow you to plug a PATA HD into an SATA port. But I want to plug an SATA drive into a PATA port.

Am I blind or are these things actually hard to find?

Thanks,
-Eric

🙁 Wow I failed pretty miserably at searching 🙁

Thanks guys 🙂

tw1164: Why do you say getting a controller card will be better? I remember sometimes having difficulties with adding more PATA ports via PCI expansion cards years ago, so I'm a little wary of going that way again.

eLiu, I just heard a lot of hit or miss stories about the converters; It works w/ brand X, but not brand Y.

I'd probably get a PCI SATA controller too as you can hook at least two drives to that while with adapters it is one adapter per drive... But some have had problems using them on mobos that had no SATA ports to begin with. But if you must go the adapter route, this one has significantly better reviews than the other but it also costs more than a simple controller too. You'll also want to protect the back of the board from contacting the back of your drive and shorting something out. I use double sided foam tape for that and I put a piece of scrap plastic sheet on the outside sticky surface. Note that almost none of the PCI SATA controllers have 5-star ratings from buyers.

im not speaking from experience but from what ive heard you're better off getting a pci sata controller card, ive heard pata-satas are sketchy also.
