can't enable dma in win2k!

i went into device manager, and when i look at the properties for my hdd, it says "use dma if available"

then under current transfer method it says "pio mode"

how do i change this to dma?

Mine was PIO also until I installed the latest ATA drivers from Intel:

here

You may also want to install the latest Intel chipset software too. It made my system alot smoother since.:)

EDIT: Um, that's if you have an Intel-based chipset. Am I brainwashed or what?

i have an a7v133

first thing i did was install the 4.29's

but there's no indication that it was installed. is it supposed to be in add/remove programs or soemthing? how can i verify that it was installed?

Check the BIOS. One way to tell is if all of your devices are listed when you first boot, then at least youre letting the BIOS know that they're there, but you still need to enable DMA in the BIOS for it to work properly. I had DMA problems in w2k until I realized that despite the fact that my drives worked, they werent being detected as DMA operable devices in the BIOS, so I had to set it to look on the second channel and enable DMA where applicable.
