I had a similair problem before. I was able to delete the file from the command line. Maybe that will work for you too.

anyway, search "regsvr" and "DOS" on google (because I forget the exact command), open a DOS prompt from in windows, go to the path and type "regsvr [might be some attributes][filename here]". This will disassociate the file from processes that are apparently running and allow you to delete the file.

Also, run a scan for spyware and a virus scan.

That'll work too. Booting to the console prevents whatever's locking the file in the OS so you can delete it. Similar to booting to the knoppix boot CD and deleting it from there.

Why would that make you a d!ck? Did you read the rest of the replies? ;)

you don't have to boot to the console, just open a command prompt, end explorer.exe, then delete, then restart explorer.exe.

It's not caused by spyware or viruses, it's just a REALLY, REALLY lame Windows bug.

WTF? I posted 3 possible fixes, in the wrong forum no less. Others tell him to format, and I get corrected?

;)

There are also virii that'll do this, so it's not always a windows issue.
