the file is called nero6603.exe, it is 0 bytes and when i try to open it in textpad for example it says its an empty file. its stitting on my desktop and i cant delete it, not even in safe mode...its always in use says windows... its not in any of the normal startup locations i dont know what to do... i'd use a boot disk and do it through dos but i dont have a floppy drive... anyway there HAS to be a way to do this.. right? any suggestions?

I had a similair problem before. I was able to delete the file from the command line. Maybe that will work for you too.

anyway, search "regsvr" and "DOS" on google (because I forget the exact command), open a DOS prompt from in windows, go to the path and type "regsvr [might be some attributes][filename here]". This will disassociate the file from processes that are apparently running and allow you to delete the file.
Also, run a scan for spyware and a virus scan.

i've had this problenm and deleting from the console worked for some reason. I don't know why, but it worked.

you don't have to boot to the console, just open a command prompt, end explorer.exe, then delete, then restart explorer.exe.
It's not caused by spyware or viruses, it's just a REALLY, REALLY lame Windows bug.

WTF? I posted 3 possible fixes, in the wrong forum no less. Others tell him to format, and I get corrected?
There are also virii that'll do this, so it's not always a windows issue.
thanks, ive tried every other suggestion and NONE of them worked. (except for the knoppix boot cd)
