Can't delete backup windows directory

I recently had to re-install WinXP Home Edition but just in case, I didn't delete the original Windows directory and just renamed it to "backupwindows". So, I re-installed WinXP to the same partition and into the "Windows" directory. BUT, now I don't need the "backupwindows" directory anymore but I can't seem to delete it. Can't do it in regular mode or safe mode... haven't been able to yet anyway. Can't do it in DOS mode either because the installation is on an NTFS partition.

Any ideas?

Try and elaborate on what's happening when you try and delete the folder? Do you get any errors? If so what are they?

When I try to delete the folder in WinXP, it would have that deleting window that shows the files "being moved into the recycle bin" but it doesn't actually delete anything.. it'll then just stop. There are no errors...

Im pretty sure its basically that protection WinXP has where you can't delete system files... I'm just not sure how to disable it to delete that directory.
