cant decide!

i ordered a Dell Inspiron 8100 on August 14th, my dream notebook, with all the latest and stuff, after two delays my currunt shipping date is October 1st, and regardless of promises by the sales rep that i will recieve it much earlier than that, its still "in production" on the order status page.

now, i am usually a _very_ patient and understanding guy, but am i about to have had enough of this. i been looking around for alternatives, a similar IBM ThinkPad would cost like a $1000 more, the new Sony Viao GR (i think) is great and got the Mobility Radeon, but its also like $600-700 more expensive than dell for same or lesser specs. the Compaq Presario 1700 is perfect, but they ruined it by offering it only with an 8mb version of the Mobility Radeon.

now the closest thing is the new Gateway 9550xl, its also more expensive, plus it doesnt have the wonderful 1600x1200 UXGA LCD i _really_ want which Dell Inspirons got.

now, what do you guys think? i am tired of talking to the Dell sales rep. should i keep my faith that Dell will ship on October 1st? which is still more than 10 days from now by the time it arrives here. or should i get the Gateway 9550 with the SXGA+ LCD? or maybe settle for an IBM or Sony VIAO with less specs to match the dell in price?

Tell Dell you are considering switching because of the delay, and see if you can get some kind of discount from them.

well i guess i will call Dell again tomorrow and complain, otherwise, anyone familiar with Gateway Notebooks quality? i never used or seen one in person.
